Dr. Sarah Caddy is a viral immunologist, veterinarian and Assistant Professor who is fascinating by antibodies.
She earned her veterinary degree from the University of Cambridge in the UK, where she first developed a passion for infectious disease research (helped by a summer project at Cornell!). After two years as a clinical vet in mixed practice, Sarah went on to complete a PhD in canine virology at Imperial College London with Ian Goodfellow, investigating virus–antibody interactions in companion animals.
Following her PhD, Sarah joined Leo James’s laboratory at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) in Cambridge as a postdoctoral researcher, where she explored novel mechanisms of antibody-mediated immunity inside cells. She was later awarded a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Career Development Fellowship, supporting her transition to establishing an independent research program.
Sarah’s work continues to integrate her veterinary background with cutting-edge molecular viral immunology, using both animal and human systems to better understand how antibodies work. She has a special fondness for maternal antibodies and is always ready to consider adding another species to the lab portfolio!
Outside of the lab… she enjoys wrangling her two kids and running with fabulous Finger Lakes running club!
